Paul Shepherd, O.D.
Dr. Shepherd received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Cornell University and served at Cornell Veterinary College for two years as a Research Assistant. As his eyes pointed west, he completed his Masters Degree from the University of Montana and went on to receive his Doctorate from Southern California College of Optometry. While on an externship at Madigan Army Medical Center, he fell in love with Washington State and purchased Dr. Robert Morrison’s practice in Enumclaw and has continued to serve the community since 1984.
Dr. Shepherd is currently a member of the American Optometric Association, Optometric Physicians of Washington, and Pierce County Optometric Society. He has served as President of the Pierce County Optometric Society and Secretary to the Board of the Optometric Physicians of Washington.
The core of Dr. Shepherd’s clinical interests encompass primary vision care for the entire family. With the increasing scope of practice for Optometric Physicians, Dr. Shepherd has embraced the medical model. He currently provides post-surgical care for cataract and LASIK patients, as well as the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, cataracts macula degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, as well as eye trauma and infection.
Dr. Shepherd and his wife, Yuba, have three adult children who have all gone on into various health care professions: Marriage and Family Therapist, Labor and Delivery RN, and Optometrist. Dr. Paul Shepherd’s Son, Dr. Alexander Shepherd, graduated from the family alma mater, Southern California College of Optometry and has join his father in the Practice.
Although originally a native of upstate New York, Dr. Paul Shepherd has spent the majority of his life working and raising his family in the Pacific Northwest. He enjoys hiking, biking and skiing, as well as other recreational activities. Say “Hi” if you see him on Mt. Peak, at the store, or on the trails around Mt. Rainier.

Alexander Shepherd, O.D.
Dr. Alexander Shepherd received his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington. He then went on to achieve his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern California College of Optometry in 2015. He has held internships at: Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium in Sitka, Alaska; the Naval Medical Center in San Diego; Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Health Center on the Navajo Reservation, New Mexico. He proudly joined his father’s practiced and has been serving the Plateau community since September 2015.
Dr. Shepherd is currently a member of both the American Optometric Association, and Optometric Physicians of Washington.
His clinical focus in on family eye care for vision and medical needs. He currently provides post-surgical care for cataract and LASIK patients, as well as the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, cataracts macula degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, as well as eye trauma and infection.
Dr. Shepherd is a native of the Pacific Northwest and grew up in Enumclaw, Washington. He loves travel and has spent time in Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Bali, Thailand and Cambodia. He has also traveled to numerous states. Dr. Shepherd has participated in several mission trips to Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Kenya to assist with eye care and treatment.
In is free time, you can catch him on the slopes of Crystal Mountain skiing or hiking in the Cascades. One of his most memorable excursions was with his father, “Doc” Shepherd, when they hiked together to the base camp of Mt. Everest. Dr. Alex also enjoys music, reading and film. Dr. Shepherd and his wife Rhyan enjoy exploring the Pacific Northwest and traveling. They live with their two, huge, adorable cats Sebastian and Serena and their sweet, energetic dog, Atticus.
